The Rabies Challenge Fund research will determine the duration of immunity conveyed by rabies inoculations. Previous research published in France indicates that rabies vaccinations last at least 5 years and that rabies titers are indicative of rabies protection. There has been no corresponding study done in the United States. The Rabies Challenge fund Charitable Trust, a tax exempt organization, was founded in 2005. All monies donated to the Trust go directly towards funding research. The goal of the research is to show that rabies vaccines can provide 5 and preferably 7 years of immunity, thus lessening the potential for adverse reactions. Donations have come from breed clubs, individual pet owners and the veterinary community.
