Based on laboratory testing conducted at an independent laboratory, Royal Canin has determined that there is a melamine derivative in some of their pet foods that contain rice protein concentrate. As a precaution Royal Canin is voluntarily recalling all their products containing rice protein concentrate (although they have no confirmed cases of illness in pets eating these diets).

Products recalled:

Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine early cardiac EC22 dry

Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine skin support SS21 dry

Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Hypoallergenic HP23 dry

The Vet at The Barn had dispensed (since this is only available as a prescription diet) the feline hypoallergenic HP23 diet to a small number of clients. This products should not be fed to any pets. All clients that have purchased this product will be called to inform them of this recall. If any pet owner whose pet was on this product is concerned about the health of their pet, and wishes to screen their pet for evidence of renal disease, Royal Canin will assume all related costs.

Royal Canin announced it will no longer use any Chinese suppliers for any of their vegetable proteins.

We regret this unfortunate incident as we place the highest priority on the health of pets.
